FAQ for Microblading
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, please bring a couple reference photos with you to your appointment. You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we may take into consideration the shape you feel most comfortable with. If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please refrain from doing so within at least one week of your appointment. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, we will remove them.
If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 30 days after the procedure.
We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 48 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
Do NOT drink any alcohol or caffeine 48 hours prior to your appointment. (Yes, decaf coffee has caffeine!)
NO Botox for 2 months prior to microblading and No Botox 4 weeks after microblading (We recommend that it's best to wait until after your touch up heals to get Botox, as an educated injector will take your new brows into consideration when choosing where to inject.)
If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure. Doxycycline users are also encouraged to wait up to 6 months before receiving Microblading.
It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.
How long does the microblading procedure last?
This varies from person to person and a colour refresh is recommended on average from 12-18 months after your initial microblading procedure.
How long does it take to do?
Investing an hour or two of your time can make you beautiful for years to come. The procedure is split into 2 appointments, which are 4-6 weeks apart to allow for the healing process to complete. The initial procedure will take from 60 to 90 minutes, and your second appointment takes from 30-60 minutes.
Do I need a patch test?
No not usually unless you are known to have allergic reactions to hair dye and pigments. If you have been known to have allergic reactions to hair dyes or pigments the please advise your artist as you may require a patch test 48 hours before your appointment.
We take every precaution necessary to ensure the micro-pigmentation application is as pain free as possible. A wide range of medical grade anaesthetics are used for your comfort. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable, whereas other clients report no discomfort at all. A combination of 2 anaesthetics are used, first a topical numbing cream and then a local anaesthetic is introduced once the microblading procedure has started. This is topped up regularly during the treatment to keep you comfortable.
How do we choose the shape?
How do you choose the shape?
We choose a shape and style together. At the beginning of the microblading procedure, Diane will draw in a suggested shape for your new brows and then we work together to perfect this to your preference and measurements are taken to check symmetry and position.
How do you choose a colour?
We choose a colour together by applying small amounts of different coloured pigments to the skin near to your brows and selecting the best match for your skin tone, features and personal preference.
What types of pigments do you use?
Cosmetics and medical tattooing have been proven to be safe. Many medical professionals, who perform their own tattooing, use the same pigments that we use. People have been placing colour in their skins for a very long time and through the years a generally accepted list of colour additives, which are expected to perform well, have proven to be safe. The FDA does not regulate the colours that are used in tattooing nor do they regulate colours used in cosmetics. Our supplier’s ingredients for our inorganic pigments are iron oxides, distilled water, alcohol, glycerine and general colours that are found in all retail makeup.
How many treatments are needed?
Microblading is a multiple step appointment process. YOUR BROWS WILL NOT BE COMPLETED AFTER JUST ONE SERVICE. For microblading, at least two appointments are needed initially. Each of these appointments being 6-8 weeks apart. Some clients prefer to go more natural and lighter for the first appointment and adjust during the touch up 6 weeks later.
After the touch up we suggest a refresher each year and after two years a fresh set of brows may be needed.
Can I have my brows microbladed if I'm pregnant?
No you cannot have this treatment done, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Does it hurt afterwards?
The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and then tender to the touch for a couple of days.
Will my Microbladed Eyebrows look fake?
NO ! Semi-Permanent makeup is done using a cosmetic tattooing process and our eyebrow pigmentation unique artistry guarantees soft, natural looking eyebrows. When we implant semi-permanent makeup pigment in the skin, it appears more natural looking than even topically applied cosmetics.
What if I don’t like it?
Although the procedure is considered semi-permanent, these procedures do have flexibility in changing colour and shape to some extent. Colours will appear much darker immediately following the procedure but will often soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and remember it takes time to adjust to a new look!
Are there any side effects during or after the procedure?
During the procedure there may be some minor bleeding. This will depend on the client. If a person is taking blood thinners on a daily basis, then some slight bleeding may occur. Bruising is rare but if a person is on blood thinners, then bruising could occur. There is usually some tenderness for a few days. The colour is much darker than you may expect for the first six to ten days.
Your brows will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first week or so. This will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Redness and swelling is minimal. You can anticipate your brows being bolder than normal the first few days after your procedure, but no need to go into hiding! ;)
What should I do after the procedure?
Please review our detailed Pre & Post Care Instructions. It is highly beneficial to follow these instructions to ensure a comfortable healing process and to achieve the best possible results.
DO NOT rub or pick the healing area as the color will peel off prematurely, and avoid extreme heat, sweating, and contaminated bodies of water (such as saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, pools, lakes, and places with hot humidity, etc.).
DO NOT apply makeup to the tattooed area for the first two weeks. Cosmetics may affect the healing of your tattoo.
DO NOT use Vaseline, or other petroleum based products while healing.
DO NOT apply anti acne, lightening cream, anti ageing products or facial products.
THE HEALING PROCESS
Day 1: I LOVE MY NEWS BROWS! Your brows are fresh, perfect and brand new. What's not to love?
Day 2-4: "These are way too dark and thick." Your brows will actually get darker over this period of time, but don't freak out! They will lighten again.
Day 5-8: During these days your brows may be flaking and scabbing off. Make sure to NOT pick or remove the scabs or you may inadvertently remove some of your pigment!
Day 9-10: "My brows have completely fallen off!!" Your brows will appear like they are completely gone during this time, but don't worry - they will still be there! And this is also why it's important to have your touch up.
Days 11-28: "My brows are coming back but they are patchy!" Your brows will appear to be patch and incomplete during this part of the healing process. Most of these patches will fill in over time but if for some reason some area doesn't take the touch up will help fill the gap so to speak.
Day 42 (after touch up): "These are better than I could have ever imagined!!!" And now you are back to the way you felt after the first day Trust me when I say that this is a real cycle.
Stick with it though and your results will be amazing
How will my microblading brows look in the future?
During your appointment, we will analyze your skin tone to anticipate how pigment colors will heal and fade in the future. We will also mix pigments to ensure the color blends well with your natural hair and skin color. There are some cases, however, where the color may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your follow up appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial color. If needed, special formula alterations to correct the color is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a "powdered" look. To keep your brows looking their best, a refresher appointment is suggested every 12 months. Results and preferences vary with each client.
What should I know about long term care?
* The color will lighten over time. We recommend an annual touch up to keep brows looking their best. Fading greatly depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, broken capillaries, iron deficiency, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure.
* If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area.
* If you are planning to have laser treatments, tell your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to turn black.
Will microblading work well for me?
If you have extremely oily skin, the microblading technique may NOT work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered instead of a crisp hair stroke appearance.
If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment will fade sooner.
Do you tattoo men's eyebrows?
We are happy to accommodate consultations for men interested in microblading.
